Well, the Alonso clan was due for an adventure, and so we chose to spend the coming 3 weeks on a roadtrip throughout this country. Our plan is to head from Florida to California and back. We're heading for a friends wedding in Malibu, California ... which takes place on August 1st.
We've set aside 22 days for the trip, which turns out to be close to 7000 miles. We traded our typical boating bent for an RV bent ... as a boat trip to California would be measured in months and not weeks.
So ... our lightly used, 2006 vintage - 29ft motor home will serve as our home for the next 3 weeks. Aboard are the kids (all five now, but we will be dropping Zach off in Arkansas), Kelly (our great French Au Pair) and Michelle and I. So ... 8 people, 7000 miles, a box on wheels that measure 29ft x 8ft ... with a living space of less than 200 sqft (think one car garage) ... what an adventure!! (read a little sarcasm).
Our first day ... involved packing, which had us leave the house around 2pm. We made a brief
stop in Fernandina Beach to visit with Grandpa and Grandma, then continued to 30 miles north of Macon, GA. A total of 420+ miles. Uneventful as we have driven this part many times ... our day ended at a Flying J truck stop ... 1130P.
Our plan is to take each day as it comes, have no set agenda or schedule, except to be in California for the wedding ... our broad plan is a route that hits the following cities: Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, Fayetteville, Tulsa, Denver, Vail, Salt Lake, Reno, Tahoe, San Francisco, Monterrey, Malibu, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Tucson, Phoenix, Santa Fe, Roswell, San Antonio, New Orleans, Mobile and back home ... amongst others
I've taken the SPOT transmitter (a satellite postion device) from the boat and put it on the RV. You can track where we are by clicking our shared position page.
